ICMAB organized workshop on “Sustainability Reporting”

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) organized a workshop on 14 March 2023 on “Sustainability Reporting” at its Ruhul Kuddus Auditorium of ICMA Bhaban, Nilkhet Dhaka. Dr. Md. Hamid Ullah Bhuiyan, Chairman, Financial Reporting Council, Bangladesh was the Chief Guest in the program. Mr. Muhammad Halimuzzaman, DMD & CEO, Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Limited will remain present in the program as Special Guest.

Ms. Aditi Haldar, Director, GRI South Asia presented a well-developed and thoughtful keynote paper on sustainability reporting. In her presentation she showed that 25 years ago, GRI first pioneered sustainability reporting and then set about ensuring it become a mainstream corporate practice by organizations around the world.  

Mr. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan FCMA, Additional Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer & CAMLCO, Standard Bank Limited will present as Commentators in the Session.

Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA, President, ICMAB presided over the program. In the seminar the discussants said about the importance of sustainability reporting. They also said that financial and sustainability standards must be developed and governed in their own right and mechanisms are needed to address questions of connectedness between the two. The aim of sustainability reporting and its associated reporting process is to create transparency in the market. Effective reporting should empower companies to take accountability for their impacts. Sustainability reporting needs to integrate due diligence and the good news is GRI standards enable this, should create greater clarity on key concepts, reporting principles and disclosures and align them with developments in responsible business conduct.

Mr. Mohammad Salim FCMA, Past President & Chairman, Seminar and Conference Committee delivered the welcome statement and Mr. Md. Kausar Alam FCMA, Secretary, ICMAB offered the vote of thanks. Mr. Mohammed Jahangir Alam FCMA, Council Member, ICMAB & Group CEO, Bangla Trac Group moderated the whole session. At the Question-and-answer session the panelists answered the questions raised by the floor and the program was vibrant and interactive with the active participation of the members.

A good number of ICMA members from home and abroad attended the program in person and through virtual platform.
