ICMAB Celebrated 24th Convocation in a Festive Mood
24th Convocation of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants Bangladesh (ICMAB) was held in a festive mood with grand celebration at the Grand Ball Room of Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden Hotel on Sunday, 14 May 2023. Hon’ble Commerce Minister Mr. Tipu Munshi MP graced the Convocation as the Chief Guest while Mr. Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Commerce graced the occasion as Special Guest. Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Mr. Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, delivered the convocation speech as Convocation Speaker.
The Commerce Minister in his speech told that today Bangladesh is in the right track and has achieved the status of a developing nation under the right and visionary direction of honourable Prime Minister, the daughter of democracy, HE Sheikh Hasina. In order to reduce the cost of business, minimize wastage and misuse of resources, the role of Cost and Management Accountants (CMAs) is indispensable, he added. The minister with pride expressed that under his Ministry this efficient CMA workforce is playing vital role for fostering economic growth of the Country. . He further complemented that the world has been passing a crucial time confronting challenges one after another in last few years after the devastating Covid-19 pandemic. The Ukraine -Russia war compelled us to face another challenge. More or less it can be said that specially business community has been facing the challenges.So efficient human resources like CMAs’ role in reducing the cost of doing business is crucial, he added. He hoped that the Students and Members of the Institute would apply their knowledge and skills positively for the achievement of sustainable economic development of Bangladesh.
The Convocation Speaker Mr. Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury in his enchanting speech said that CMAs possess the profound knowledge and that can identify weaknesses of companies and suggest remedies to recover from it to make the companies profitable. The professional expertise and skill are always stepping ahead in performance of any organization, whether it is in public or in private sectors. The qualified Cost and Management Accountants (CMAs) have been performing their due role for achieving the organizations’ goals. Their undoubted contribution with their knowledge and expertise they have gathered from ICMAB will come into action in the development process of the country, he told.
Speaking as a Special Guest, Mr. Tapan Kanti Ghosh said, it is a matter of pride that, as a professional accounting body under the administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce, ICMAB has been playing crucial role to prepare the professional personnel who plays the key role in the corporate and public bodies. He also said that at the time of pandemic, these accountants have made their remarkable contribution to keep the financial condition of the organizations stand-high, which helps the country to stay in right track. He believed that Bangladesh economy would be highly benefited with the guided services of these professionals. He expected that ICMAB would continue its ongoing effort of supplying qualified and efficient human resources with high level of professionalism to transform Bangladesh to a developed nation.
ICMAB President Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA in his captivating speech cited that ICMAB’s vision is fully aligned with the vision of the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his very much competent daughter hounable Prime Minister HE Sheikh Hasina to help Bangladesh become an industrialized nation. The professional knowledge and skill of CMAs will definitely assist Bangladesh to meet her SDG targets by 2030 and become developed and SMART Bangladesh by 2041. The Cost and Management Accountants’ service in this respect is unparalleled. In order to face the challenges of globalization and rapid growth of Bangladesh economy, the country is in need of competent accounting professionals and the Institute is very much committed to produce such professional accountants from its very inception, he added. He then gave emphasis and reminded the members of their duties to follow the ethics and professional code of conduct in discharging their responsibilities.
Mr. Tipu Munshi handed over the certificates to a total of 486 CMA degree holders and also a total of 13 Students were given proficiency awards at the programme. After the certificate giving ceremony and photo session phase, the programme ended with a grand dinner where all the participants and invitees joined with their friends and families. The program started with the welcome speech of Mr. Mohammed Salim FCMA, past President & Convener, ICMAB Convocation 2023 while Mr. Md. Kausar Alam FCMA, Secretary, ICMAB offered Vote of Thanks.
