The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) organized a seminar titled “Management Accounting Education for a Challenging Career” on July 10, 2018 at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) premises in collaboration with the School of Business of the said University.

Professor H. M. Jahirul Haque, Vice Chancellor of ULAB graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Institute’s President Mr. Mohammed Salim FCMA, Secretary Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA, Academic Consultant Dr. Nikhil Chandra Shil FCMA were present in the seminar as the Guests of Honor. The seminar was chaired by Professor Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the Board of Trustees & Dean of Business School of ULAB.

Speakers at the seminar discussed about the necessity of professional degrees in addition to academic degrees for accelerating career success. Education system of ICMAB is also briefed along with the membership profile to motivate the audiences. Bringing some successful indicators of Bangladesh which is undergoing through serious development initiatives, the speakers presented the potential of professional accountants in coming days. Around 160 students of the said University attended the seminar and listened to the speakers till the end which lasts for more than one and half hours. Students were also engaged in an informal networking with the speakers at the end of the seminar which reflects their keenness with the professional education.

The minister said that the people want to pay taxes, but due to our system loss taxes are not being collected accordingly. If the tax was properly collected then the national budget would have been much larger. He suggested to use the electronic cash registration machine for this. He said, using the electronic cash registration machine, the correct amount of revenue would be collected to the government server. So the source amount of budget will increase.

In the face of the changing business landscape where volatility, uncertainty, risk, ambiguity and disruption are becoming more prevalent, the role of the CFO has undergone several evolutions and is thought to go through several more. A CFO’s role has changed over the years. It is said it will change again, and probably much sooner than some are prepared for. In addition to being competent, a CFO now needs to be versatile. How will this evolving versatility dictate new professional competencies required of the CFO in the future?
 
In order to develop the capacity of the students, the Students Affairs Committee of the Institute organized “Meet the CFO” program for the students of ICMAB on 14 May 2018. The objective of the program was to identify the skills required for the students to be business partner. The program has two sessions. The topic of the paper presentation session was “CFO as a business partner and what skills students need to be business partner” by Mr. Md. Shafiqul Alam, LL.B, ACS, FCA, FCMA, Director Finance and Company Secretary of Super Star Group (SSG).

An open Discussion on Professional Matters was organized by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) on April 22, 2018 at 7.00 p.m. at ICMAB Ruhul Quddus Aditorium, ICMA Bhaban, Nilkhet, Dhaka to discussion on various issues relating to the development of CMA profession as well as the Institute. Mr. Mohammed Salim FCMA, President, ICMAB presided over the meeting.

The Council of the Institute accorded a open hall reception to the students who passed CMA final examination in December 2017 examination. The program was held on March 08, 2018 at the ICMAB Ruhul Quddus Auditorium. 8 students who successfully qualified to achieve the prestigious CMA degree after passing all the subjects of the CMA course were warmly greeted by the Office Bearers, Councilors, Members and Students of the Institute. Newly qualified students were briefly introduced before the audience. As a mark of honor, they were given seat in the dias while Councilors including the president seated in the audience. The program started with recitation from the holy Quran and was followed by address of welcome by Chairman, Examination Committee Mr. M. Abul Kalam Mazumdar FCMA.

Reception to CMAs Dec 2017 exam

The newly qualified CMAs then shared their feelings of joining the CMA family and lively stories of struggle, hopes and inspirations during their arduous journey as a CMA student. They expressed firm commitment to uphold the image of the profession. President Mr. Mohammed Salim FCMA in his speech advised the newly qualified CMAs to maintain the highest standard in rendering their professional services. He also emphasized on strict compliance to the professional code of ethics and conducts that CMAs are highly regarded for. He told that as a professional they should remain committed to their responsibilities to the society. All the newly qualified CMAs put their signature with comments in the CMA graduation signature book.

Among others, Past Presidents of ICMAB Mr. Rafiq Ahmad FCMA, Mr. Arif Khan FCMA and Council Member Mr. Md. Mamunur Rashid FCMA attended the program. The program was conducted by ICMAB Secretary Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA. Mr. Md. Mahbub Ul Alam FCMA, Executive Director of the Institute offered vote of thanks. In order to equip CMA students with the knowledge of IFRS, the Institute organized a Training Program on “IFRS-16: Leases” for the students of ICMAB on January 20, 2018 from 6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. at ICMA Bhaban, Nilkhet, Dhaka.
