Zahir Uddin Ahmed, FCA, FCMA, has been elected President of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh for the year 2008 in its meeting held in Dhaka on January 24, 2008. Mr. Zahir Uddin Ahmed, FCA, FCMA(UK), FCMA is a veteran professional accountant of the country having membership of both ICMAB and ICAB.
He was the President of ICAB for two terms in 1975-76 and 1981. He has been in the Council of ICAB for 30 years since its inception in 1973.
He was the Council Member of ICMA Bangladesh for the term 1993-95.
At the 46th SAFA Assembly meeting, he was elected as President for the year 2002.
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, London. He was an honorary lecturer in the Department of Management of Dhaka University for nearly 25 years.
Mr. Ahmed joined Price Waterhouse, Chittagong, East Pakistan in 1958 as a qualified audit assistant. He was the Chief Accountant of Macneill & Kilburn Ltd., Dhaka from 1962 to 1966. He was the founder of Zahir Ahmed & Co., Chartered Accountants in 1967. He become the Finance Director of Bangladesh Jute Mill Corporation (1972-1979) & Bangladesh Tobacco Co. Ltd. (BATB) (1980-1993).
Mr. Ahmed has served as Member of several committees including the Cost and Price Consultative Committee and Company Law Reforms Committee formed by the Government of Bangladesh.
